Light Festival: An Emotional Creative Journey Duration: From 40 to 50 minutes From June 8 to June 20, 2024, every evening from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
The Light Festival project was conceptualized in late 2022, with the desire to bring visitors a virtual and poetic discovery inside Hue Citadel via the combination of different creative technology and techniques. This is an academic and interactive journey that also focuses on aesthetic factors. All installations are created to immerse viewers into a virtual universe throughout the journey of audio and lighting.
These installations range from synchronously-lit traditional Hue lanterns to a series of beautiful ornamental trees displaying illuminated manmade roots, anchoring into the ground when darkness falls. On the surface of the lake, a giant lotus flower brilliantly shines, bringing vibrant colors to its surroundings. Such a journey in the heart of the Imperial City is like an invitation to visitors about a world of fantasy and imagination.
Giving life to the heritages through the combination of digital art, light and music. In Viet Nam, the preservation and promotion of architectural heritage always receive full attention, especially in the ancient capital of Hue. One of the priorities of Thua Thien Hue provincial government is to develop the local tourism industry through promoting architectural heritage.
In that spirit, the French Institute in Viet Nam (IFV) proposed to a unique Light Festival, following the success of Hue by light - The live show. This time, the project aims to honor Hue Imperial City, especially Thai Binh Pavilion and the surroundings, by utilizing 12 unique audio and lighting installations.
The Light Festival taking place within the framework of Hue Festival 2024 also aims to enhance the skills of the local team by exchanging experience, skills and professional know-how from the French experts that have been recognized and highly appreciated all around the world. The Light Festival is the result of cooperation between the French and Vietnamese teams to create a unique event, suitable for the chosen location. The French team will take on the artistic direction. The contents and technical solutions will be co-developed with Vietnamese partners as a chance of working together and sharing of professional knowledge.
THE CREATION
The Light Festival is the outcome of more than a year of creativity, searching for technical solutions, and production of the AC3 Studio to bring visitors an exciting journey within Hue Imperial City and Thai Binh Pavilion.
To carry out all of these installations, the creative team had to build a specially designed, centralized control system consisting of 9 servers, 22 e-cards, many kilometers of cables and more than 4,500 light sources, which breathes life into buildings, gardens, trees, rockeries and lake areas.
The utilized technologies are diversified depending on each specific installation, to best serve the visitor experience such as: Smart grid system powered by solar panels, traditional stage lighting system, video mapping, controllable LED lighting system (Artnet), infrared sensors, optical fibers and controllable smoke generators. Technology is used to serve the viewer experience and is designed in such a way that cannot be realized by viewers.
