ROYAL TOMBS OF NGUYEN DYNASTY IN HUE
1. Introduction Nguyen dynasty’s royal tomb is one of the important factors in Hue architectural complex – the World Cultural Heritage recognized in 1993 by UNESCO.

. Mentioning Hue, people might think of ramparts, royal palace, esplanade, pagoda and large royal tombs – the greatest architectural structures of the traditional art harmonizing with nature. “As the works of the working population as well as the most skilful handicraftsmen nationwide, those architectural structures express original variations on a definite theme. Each royal tomb, with its own characteristics, is a perfect achievement of the landscape architecture; and may leave in tourists’ heart different special emotions. Gia Long tomb situated in a large natural forest arouses mighty but peaceful impression. Minh Mang tomb is solemn, and Tu Duc tomb gives tourists the poeticism.” [1] Important as the Nguyen dynasty’s royal tombs might be, they have received a wide variety of concerns from researchers for so long. Nevertheless, there has not been a comprehensive investigation on this unique architectural complex. This survey tries to overcome the above short-comings. Nonetheless, in this constraint, I would like to mention only the commonest and most fundamental problems. This writing bases on materials compiled by Nguyen dynasty, including the Kham dinh Dai Nam hoi đien su le 欽定大南會典事例 (compiled by Nguyen dynasty Cabinet 阮朝內閣), Dai Nam nhat thong chi大南一統誌, Dai Nam thuc luc大南實錄, Dai Nam liet truyen 大南列傳 and Kham dinhDai Nam hoi đien su le tuc bien  欽定大南會典事例續編 of the National Historiographers’ Office 阮朝國史館), and stelae at Nguyen dynasty’s royal tombs. Besides, the reference is made with researches of French scholars published on Bulletin des Amis du Vieux Hué (BAVH) together with some Vietnamese research works from early XXth century till now.
